to Sainte Threse de l'enfant Jesus whose bady is laid to rest
in the chapel of the Carmelites. Lourdes, one of the world's principal
centres of spirituality, is a meeting place for sick people and
believers of all nationalities. It was here, in the Grotto of
Massabielle that Bemadette Soubirous saw the Virgin; other places
of prayer, the Route of the Calvary and the underground basilica
of Rosaire. In Nevers, the body of Bernadette Soubirous was laid
to rest in the convent of Saint-Gildard; there is spiritual reflection
particularly on the 11th and 18th February. At Paray-le-Monial,
the Coeur de Jesus pilgrimage can be traced back ta the apparitions
of 1672 to Sainte Marguerite-Marie. The Sanctuary of the Virgin
Mary in Puy-en-Velais (Haute Loire) dates from the 10th century;
visitors usually come on the 25th March, during Holy Week and
on 15th August. Rocamadour (Lot), famous for its pilgrimage along
the Route of Saint James of Compostelle, still today has its
ardent followers.
