Chamonix, Grenoble, Albertville.. Needless to say you will find
numerous buildings and facilities and some excellent levels. As
to the choice of your resort, there is a whole range: family resorts,
sports resorts, traditional charm or excellent modernity, resorts
in medium of high mountains, resorts for beginners or experienced
skiiers. This is your great winter meeting place, but don't forget
that in the summer too the mountain has many possibilities!
The spectacular relief of Bornes with its cols and mountain pastures; it is here that the famous "reblochon" (mild cheese) is made. Go along to the resorts of Grand Bornand and la Clusaz. The great Chartreuse a veritable natural fortress, peaks and ridges such as that of Charmont Som and the famous Monastere, birthplace of a famous plant liqueur...
Arrive in the Vercors via its charming and impressive routes and admire the chain of gorges, forest, and waterfalls. And, jutting out on its own, like a calcareous fortress, Mont Aiguille. Enjoy the beautiful resort of Autrans, its verdant valley in a forest setting.. for cross-country skiing. The villages here are fascinating; that of Pont-en-Royans, at the foot of the gorges, has its houses suspended in the cliff. The Vercors is a great symbol of the French Resistance during the second World War, the latter being commemorated in the museum and cemetery of Vassieux.
with its streets lined with porticos, stands the chateau of the
Dukes of Savoie. See Aix-les-Bains, its Corot and Degas and, overhanging
the lake.. the abbey of Hautecombe. Set off for the great resorts,
and some unforgetable excursions.
Grenoble, capital city of the Alps. Its telepherique will take you up to the Fort of the Bastille. Stendhal was born here. The town is also a center for contemporary art.
La Tarentaise, represents all the modernity of a vast skiing area on the slopes of the massif of la Vanoise. Val d'Isere, of course, and also the resorts built in the mountain pastures providing accommodation at the foot of the pistes, such as Tigne.
Large resorts: les Arcs, la Plagne, Meribel, les Menuires or Val Thorens at altitudes of 2200 metres. And if you are a lover of luxury there is the famous Courchevel. Lovers of unspoiled nature should visit Beaufortin; here the bell towers with their rounded domes preserve the authenticity of the region, and in the mountain pastures, so verdant, they make a truly great cheese: the beaufort..
La Maurienne, with its villages of stone, its roofs with heavy
tiles of shale; in the summer make the most of your stay in order
to discover its important baroque heritage. There are some superb
massifs: Sept-Laux and Belledonne with Chamrousse. Oisans is
breathtaking with its dizzy walks high up in the mountain; you
can ski all year long, intensive skiing, skiing on glaciers: the
sun-drenched Alpe d'Huez, and Deux-Alpes with its "Dome Express",
a futuristic funiculaire which propels you to a height of 3500
meters.. Bourg d'Oisans, gateway to the Nature Reserve of Ecrins
overlooking 6 touristic valleys. In the summer. holidays here
are superb, dynamic: activities around the lakes, races in the
