The distinguished view of the honeycombed rock in the center of
Ortahisar gives this Cappadocian town a unique appearance. This
sharp rock formation in the middle of the town is called "Sivri
Kaya". Since the early ages, the human settlers carved their
houses into this monumental rock formation. These houses have
been converted into storerooms nowadays.
The rest of the town was built from the same stone material in masonry but in a modern style. There is still a great harmony between the early carved rock settlement center and the recent town center. They both reflect a close cultural link with the surrounding landscape by utilizing the volcanic tuff building material extensively.
