THE STADIUM (Priene)

It is in the lower terrace of the city. Leaning against the mountain slope, the seats for spectators were constructed only on one side. The length of the open sports field was 190m. and the width was 20m. It was built in the 2nd century B.C.

Running races, long jumping, disc and javelin throwing and also wrestling were held here. Lower gymnasium and the stadium were mainly allocated to young men, but upper gymnasium to children only.

Although the finish column to determine the result of the competitions has not yet been found, the exit on western side was found during the recent excavations.
