THE CAPITO BATH (Miletus)

The bath was built in 48 A.C. under the Roman rule. It is located in the east-west direction. Vergilius Capito, a close friend of the Roman Emperor Claudius, is thought to be the builder of the bath. The name of Capito was written on one of the stones standing in between the entrance columns, on the top end.

The fire place of the bath was at the south east corner of the complex. There was a courtyard to the west end of the building. On the east side of the courtyard there existed a semi-circular pool.
